Nick's Last Year Was Complicated
Nick Jonas just dropped his new album, Last Year Was Complicated, and it's everything! Back in March Nick took to Twitter to release the track list and album name. (See previous post) He also opened up about the album being inspired by a breakup with his long time girlfriend. From listening to the tracks it's clear that Nick used this album to not only get over the relationship, but also reminisce on it.
From the very first track to the end Nick incorporates different styles of music seamlessly into one. There's an overall R&B feel mixed with Pop and a little bit of a Hip Hop vibe added in. This comes through on his solo tracks but is also helped by the featured artists: Tove Lo, Ty Dolla $ign, and Big Sean.
Because this album was inspired by a breakup you'd think it'd be full of sad, heartbroken lyrics. While listening you realize it's more than a breakup album. It's a recounting of a relationship. Remembering when you first met, how you both had to learn to trust each other, and the pain that comes from rough times and the ending of the relationship.
Overall the album is both fun and emotional. You'll either be dancing or in your feelings. Besides the previously released tracks (Champagne Problems, Close, Chainsaw, Bacon, and Under You) my favorites are probably Touch, The Difference, Good Girls, and Comfortable. I know I listed almost every track, but it's a great album! Even the ones I didn't list are still great. We all know I love Nick Jonas, though, so I may be a little bias. Check it out for yourself!
