Last night, Republican candidate Donald Trump was just elected to be the 45th President of the United States of America. I feel a lot of things but mostly disappointment and fear.
I'm disappointed in those who didn't vote. While you were saying "My vote doesn't matter" Trump supporters were lining up at the polls in numbers greater than you can imagine.
I'm disappointed in this country. A country that claims to be a melting pot and a safe place for all just elected a President who is openly racist and sexist among many other things.
I fear what this means for race relations. The civil rights movement was only less than 50 years ago. That's not that long ago. I felt like the mindset of this country was starting to get a little better but this election proved me wrong. Our new elected president seems to incite his supporters to riot against all people of color. I genuinely feel like now I am more likely to be physically harmed or verbally assaulted at any time.
Through these emotions and more all I know is no matter who runs this country, the only one who I fully trust to run things is God. He said no weapon formed against me shall prosper. So I'm trusting Him because this election is a classic example of how people can fail you.
To everyone feeling similar feelings of disappointment, fear, and even hopelessness- keep your head up! Personally I'm going to go on this this mindset: I'm still Black, I'm still beautiful, and I'm a child of God. Everything is going to be fine. Or in the words of Kendrick: We gon be alright!
