I have a real case of Senioritis. I'm coming up on my last month of school so I wanted to share with you all the songs that have really been speaking to my condition on a spiritual level.
Finish Line / Drown by Chance The Rapper (ft. T-Pain, Kirk Franklin, Eryn Allen, and Noname) This is actually my number one song getting me through this semester. It mixes the hip hop and gospel parts of me to create the perfect motivational triumphant banger. I basically listen to this song once a day. Lyrics I love: “All my days, I prayed and prayed, and now I see the finish line, oh I’m gonna finish mine” “I may cry a river, but You take each drop and you wash me new”
Take Me To the King by Tamela Mann (ft. Kirk Franklin) Honestly, sometimes the way my effort is set up with the difficulty of classes and adulting… I just need Jesus to get through it. Lyrics I love: “Truth is I’m tired, options are few”
20 Something by SZA This song has spoken to my soul since this summer. Your 20s are an interesting time filled with fun, difficulties, and learning new things about the world and yourself. Preparing for the real world outside of the bubble of college is super daunting. Lyrics I love: “How could it be? 20 something, all alone still not a thing in my name, ain't got nothin', runnin' from love, only know fear… good luck on them 20 somethings, but God bless these 20 somethings”
Don’t Take it Personal (Just One of Dem Days) by Monica When it comes to the classes and situations I truly enjoy, some days my heart is in it but my mood is not. Most of the time I have good intentions. Lyrics I love: “It’s just one of those days that a girl goes through, when I’m angry inside, don’t wanna take it out on you”
Wanna Be Happy? by Kirk Franklin Once again, I just need Jesus sometimes. I also feel like this song lets me know I have the power to change how I feel about a situation. Yeah it sucks and it’s stressful being a senior, but I have the power to view things positively! Lyrics I love: “If you're tired of being the same, If you're tired of things not changing, It's time for you to get out the way”
The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars 5 times our of 10 I don’t feel like doing assignments or activities that I don’t feel like benefit my future. They’re just obligations. Why? I’d rather do nothing than do things that aren’t beneficial to me. Lyrics I love: “Today I don’t feel like doing anything, I just want to lay in my bed... I might mess around and get my college degree, I bet my old man would be so proud of me, but sorry pops you’ll just have to wait”
IDFWU by Big Sean (ft. E-40) This song doesn’t even target a specific person for me. Sometimes I’m just done with school, situations, annoying people I’ve had to tolerate since starting school, all of that. Sometimes I’m just not messing with it. Lyrics I love: “I got no feelings to go, I swear I had it up to here, I got no ceilings to go”
Find You by Nick Jonas Honestly this song is about finding yourself and a significant other. To me it’s about finding myself and a job. Hire me please. Lyrics I love: “Knock on the door but there's no one listening, And I never really know just where to find you”
Sorry Not Sorry by Demi Lovato This song is truly my mood the day I get my degree. I’ll be shining and living my best life. I’m ready to graduate and flourish. Sorry not sorry for the glow that’s going to happen. Lyrics I love: “Baby I’m sorry I’m not sorry, being so bad got me feeling so good, showing you up like I knew that I would”
Crew by GoldLink (ft. Brent Faiyaz and Shy Glizzy) Like I said, I’m ready to graduate and flourish. When I do flourish (speaking things into existence) I don’t want ANYONE who tried to play me or hold me down trying to be all buddy buddy. If you weren’t down when I was shooting in the gym don’t try to come through when I win the championship. Lyrics I love: “I was down and out like last week, tell me where have you been, you came out of hiding girl, don’t act like I’m your man, you’re just a fan, you don’t hold rank”
If you all have any type of senioritis or you're ready to move on from your current situation I hope you can relate to this playlist!
