Dear Howard University
Dear Howard University,
I’m not really sure where to begin. I guess I should start by saying thank you. From the moment I stepped on your campus to my last moment as a student you’ve welcomed me with open arms. There were times you showed me tough love. Like when I had to go to multiple offices and talk to multiple people just to get a single form signed. Then there were times you offered me a safe space and comfort. Like when a white supremacist was elected into office and both faculty and students alike were there to support each other.
I think the best things you’ve provided to me have been people and experiences. I formed unique bonds with many members of the faculty. I’ve been inspired to make conscious decision creatively and never stop pushing myself. From my fellow students I’ve gained life long friendships and encouragement. Watching a fellow Bison reach new heights shows you that nothing is impossible if you work hard enough. Through all of these people I’ve experienced things I never dreamed of. I’ve had late nights of studying and hilarious conversations; early mornings of classes and video shoots; and days where I felt like giving up with inspiration to keep going.
Though I’ve got my fair share of moments with The Howard Struggle, I wouldn’t have spent my college days anywhere else. Until the day I die I will have never ending Bison pride because Howard made me who I am. I came to Howard unsure of who I was or what I wanted to do with my life. I graduated confident in who I am and what I have to do to reach my goals. So thank you for changing my life. I don’t who I’d be without you.
